At 65

Your mailbox is starting to fill to the brim every day. You receive your red, white and blue Medicare card from the Department of Health and Human Services. You realize that the magical time of Medicare is upon you. What do you do next?

Your initial enrollment period starts three months before the month you turn 65 and ends three months after you turn 65. In total, you have seven months during this enrollment period. However, we recommend enrolling in the three months prior to your 65th birthday so that your coverage is effective the first of the month you turn 65 and to avoid delays.

You will notice you receive your Medicare card in the mail months before your birthday. If you are receiving Social Security benefits, it will show Part A and Part B enrollment. If not, you may need to enroll in Part B through the Social Security office or online.

Once enrolled in both parts of Original Medicare, you will need to decide if you want extra coverage such as Part D, Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage. We will be happy to offer you a no-cost consultation to help you navigate your options and make an informed decision™.  Contact us today!
